Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football and community service. The first is the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. In football, he played with three of his brothers from Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi Award as the nation's best lineman. In his time as Oklahoma's starting quarterback and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and won two national championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship and was recognized as a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week of volunteer time in the college. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. Also, he began his career in the field of business. The first job he had was an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being one of the top 10 young men of the United States. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds when he played college football. In 1975, he led the group. He joined University of South Florida in 1993 as the assistant director of sports. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
